As industry experts and leaders, KSI Engineering developed this user-friendly application to help Ontario insurance adjusters, and our forensic engineering colleagues, conduct a quick preliminary assessment of the likely cause of property damage due to snow, wind, or construction vibration for houses and small buildings as defined under Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code. As frequent intense weather systems are now the new normal, the insurance industry will continue to experience significant spikes in the volume of property claims that may exceed the capacity of the insurance adjusters to handle in a timely fashion.

This release of the App (V 1.0.0) contains a simple, yet fairly accurate, tool to assess whether damage to roofs during a snowstorm was due to the snow load exceeding what a building should have been designed for, at the time of its original construction or due to pre-existing construction deficiencies. The App covers the current and all the legacy editions of the Ontario Building Code from 1965 when the National Building Code of Canada was in effect in the Province of Ontario to the 2012 edition of the Ontario Building Code that is currently in effect. Planned future releases of the App will include tools to analyze wind and vibration damage.
